VTuber Merch Without Inventory: A Practical Guide for Small Creators
By Anime Pillow · Updated · 5 min read
Most small VTubers and streamers want merch long before they can afford minimum order quantities. Ordering a hundred acrylic stands and hoping they sell is a real risk with a few hundred followers. This guide covers how to make merch for a small streamer without holding stock: what you must own first, merch ideas that grow with your audience, how affiliate links fit in, and how to disclose and run giveaways properly.

Start designingCovers from $49.00 · printed on both sidesStep 1: make sure you own your character
Before any merch, check your rights. You can only turn a character into merch if you own it or hold a license that allows it.
- Self-made model or art: you own it.
- Commissioned model or art: check your contract, or ask your artist, whether commercial use and derivative works (including AI-made variations) are allowed.
- Agency or company characters usually belong to the company. Do not use them without written permission.
- Credit your model artist and rigger when you show merch. It is good manners and good for the community.
You may design your own VTuber or streaming persona with us only if you own or have licensed the character design. Characters from agencies or other creators are not allowed. See our content policy.
Step 2: pick merch ideas that need no inventory
- Digital merch: wallpapers, emotes, voice packs and stream assets, made by you or your artist.
- Print-on-demand products: each item is made only when someone orders, so you never hold stock.
- Pre-order windows: open orders for a fixed period, then produce exactly what sold.
- A one-off character pillow for yourself: a physical piece of your character to show on stream, with nothing to store or sell.
How a character pillow works for creators
Our designer turns a written description into a full-length body pillow design. For a VTuber, that means describing your character in detail:
- Write your character sheet as a prompt: hair, eye color, signature outfit pieces, accessories and colors.
- Generate a few versions and refine one detail at a time.
- Add a matching AI back side, for example your main outfit on the front and a cozy pajama look on the back.
- Approve the print proof before production. Compare the face, hair, outfit and colors with your model, and request changes if something is off.
Be realistic: the AI draws its own interpretation of your description, not a copy of your official art. Treat it as a cozy alternate look of your character.
- Covers start at $49.00 and are made to order: 10–14 days production + 5–10 days shipping.
- Every pillow comes with a free bonus pack: a phone wallpaper, a profile picture and full-body character art of your companion (plus a 3D figure where available).
Step 3: earn with affiliate links instead of stock
Our affiliate program is free to join. You earn 15% of the order value (after discounts, excluding shipping) when someone buys within 30 days of clicking your link, and your viewers get 10% off their first order.
Want fans to own your character itself? Open a free creator shop: in your account choose a design and “Sell in my shop”, approve the print proof once, and after a quick review fans can order exactly that pillow from your product page. You earn 20% of every sale, and we print, ship and handle support.

Open my creator shopYour affiliate link works alongside it: viewers who would rather design their own original companion still earn you commission. Pitch both: "get my official pillow, or design one of your own OC".
- Show your own pillow on stream, then invite chat to design theirs.
- Run a "chat designs a character" segment, with viewers suggesting the outfit, prop and setting.
- Put your link in your stream panels, Discord and link-in-bio.
- Post the prompt-to-pillow process as a short video.
Step 4: disclose properly
Affiliate links and gifted products count as advertising. In the US the FTC expects clear disclosure, many other countries have similar rules, and our affiliate terms require it too.
- Say it where people will notice: on stream or in the video, and next to the link, not only hidden under "show more".
- Use plain words: "#ad", "affiliate link, I earn a commission", or your platform's paid-partnership label.
- Disclose gifted products as gifted, even if you were not paid.
- Disclose on every platform. A clip reposted to another app needs its own disclosure.
This is general information, not legal advice. Check the rules for your country and each platform you use.
Step 5: run giveaways the right way
- Read your platform's rules first. Most streaming and social platforms have their own giveaway policies.
- Write short official rules: who can enter, how, the end date, how the winner is picked and contacted, and which regions are eligible.
- Do not require a purchase to enter. In many places that can turn a giveaway into a regulated lottery.
- Set a minimum age for entrants where your platform or local law requires one.
- Announce the winner (with their permission) and deliver the prize promptly.
A gift card makes an easy prize. It is delivered by email, so you never need the winner's home address, and the winner designs their own original character.
A simple first-month plan
- Week 1: check your rights, design your character pillow, approve the print proof.
- Weeks 2–4: production and shipping (10–14 days production + 5–10 days shipping). Tease the design on stream and socials.
- When it arrives: unboxing stream, plus your affiliate link with a clear disclosure.
- Next milestone: a small gift-card giveaway for your debut anniversary, birthday or follower goal.
Start with your own character, then share the fun with your community.
